📍
A state license and a carrier appointment are not the same thing. A license gives you authority from the state. A carrier appointment or writing number gives you authority to submit business with that carrier in that state.

The Order Matters
1. Get the state license → 2. Confirm the carrier/product is available there → 3. Complete any carrier state-add/appointment step → 4. Confirm you are clear before writing.
A state license by itself is not the finish line.
Before Adding a State
- Your resident life license must be active.
- Confirm the state fits your actual lead or sales plan.
- Check the state's requirements and fees through NIPR.
- Review Non-Resident Licensing Guide before applying.
After the License Is Approved
A new state license does not automatically mean every carrier is ready there.
For each carrier you plan to write:
- Confirm the carrier accepts business in that state.
- Complete the carrier's state-add or appointment process if required.
- Wait for confirmation, portal access, or the appropriate writing authority before submitting an application.
- Save the approval and update your personal license/carrier records.
Where to Get Help
- Use Carrier Directory & Support for verified agent-support contacts and carrier resources.
- Send contracting, hierarchy, transfer, release, and appointment requests to Brooke through the current team process.
- Do not rely on an old spreadsheet, screenshot, or another agent's appointment status as proof that you are cleared.
